The provision of training and technical assistance to the Illinois Community Action Network has been a long established strength of IACAA. Over the past several years, it has become apparent that the delivery of training information was a mixed bag and was not effective in outreach to the entire network. However, the demand for training and technical assistance grew expediently as evidenced through new training initiatives, including required Board of Director training, the Certified Public Manager, and an increase in Peer to Peer technical assistance to member agencies. To address this issue and to build on the established reputation of IACAA’s training and technical assistance practice, the Professional Development Institute (PDI) planning began in earnest in 2007 and was launched in 2009 through the completion of a comprehensive business plan. The plan was formulated in collaboration with the University of Illinois-Springfield with the goal of coordinating all IACAA generated and hosted training and technical assistance opportunities.
