Amy Martin

Amy Martin joins the association with over 20 years of executive leadership experience with various programs at the State of Illinois. Her tenure at the State has provided her with a well-rounded skill set in management, government administration, legislation, fundraising and marketing.

Amy is a lifelong resident of central Illinois, having grown up in Bloomington and graduated from Illinois State University with Bachelor’s in Political Science. Amy continued her education at the University of Illinois Springfield, focusing her areas of study on State Government and the Legislature. Amy enrolled in a graduate internship program with the House of Representatives which subsequently led to a position in the State Senate as a press secretary for Leader Emil Jones, Jr.

She spent eight years working in Chicago as a professional fundraiser with such notable clients as the former State Senator, President Barack Obama; United States Senator Carol Moseley Braun; and Cook County Commissioner Forrest Claypool. As chief of staff for political consultant David Axelrod, Amy expanded her budget and management experience coordinating multiple staff in different locations throughout the country.

After spending one year in the Chicago office at Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), Amy was able to transfer to the Springfield office and return to her central Illinois roots. Amy also held the title of State Director for the Illinois Main Street Program, focusing on member services and developing public private partnerships.

In 2013, she accepted a cabinet level position with the state as Director of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency overseeing the State Historic Sites and the Abraham Lincoln Precedential Library and Museum. During her tenure she negotiated an agreement with the National Parks to work in collaboration to make the Pullman the State Historic site a National Monument, operating it in partnership with the State of Illinois.

During her tenure with the State, Amy oversaw substantial budgets exceeding $25 million and a workforce of over 200 full-time employees. Working alongside dedicated professionals and volunteers to advance economic development in Illinois.
